From Slovenia we traveled south to Croatia and the area continued to be beautiful. From the mountains we traveled through rolling green hills with castles and then crossed a ridge into Istria with hill top towns and vineyards.
Zagreb
There were a few stops on this trip that we kind of added to the itinerary without too many expectations and then were pleasantly surprised. Zagreb was definitely one of them. We thought it was great! It reminds me of Vienna or Budapest. The place we stayed was fantastic! It had a great location and perhaps the best breakfast EVER! If you are ever in Zagreb you should stay at 4 City Windows (how's that for a plug?).
Ban Jelačić Square
Fun on the Funicular!
More forced perspective in St. Mark's Square.
The Stone Gate with it's mini chapel.
St. George and his slain dragon.
Tkalčićeva Street. Fun street with restaurants and shops.
If it weren't a bar we would have gone in to Tolkien's House!
Another fun street with street lights that are still gas lamps.
Zagreb Cathedral
Giant Easter Eggs!
Motovun
Motovun is an Istrian hilltop town and it was beautiful but we definitely felt like we had it covered with just a couple of hours. I'm glad we didn't spend the night. But it was interesting and fun to visit.
On the Ramparts.
St. Stephen's Church
Rovinj
Wow! What can I say about Rovinj? So awesome! It used to be part of the Venetian empire and has a very Italian feel, but less touristy and really laid back. With perfect little narrow streets and courtyards and gorgeous views of the sea! We again stayed in a fabulous place and ate wonderful food. I for sure want to visit again.
Mmmmm, food!
Grisia Street
Tito Square
Oh, man! A Communist Era monument! Jack was excited.
The apartment where we stayed.
Church of St. Ephemia
Are you kidding me? Gorgeous!
After Rovinj we took a lovely drive back to Italy...
